The Municipal Body consists of 33 representatives. The Mayor is elected directly by the
residents of the district and three deputy mayors assist and help the Mayor’s work actively. The elected representatives work in ten committees. Eleven local governments of minorities have been operating in our District since 2002.
The coat of arms of our District is a shield standing on its tip, its basic colours are red and silver, complementary colours are blue and golden. The eight-row red and silver streaks indicate that this region once belonged to the Árpád dynasty. Blue colour symbolises the Danube and the former Vizafogó (a place where
white sturgeons were fished in old times). Golden colour appears in the pictogram of the angel with spread wings and hands. Using the symbols of the so-called talking emblem, this pictogram symbolises Angyalföld (the Angel Land). The eight-spoke rack-wheel symbolises the once significant manufacturing industry on the one hand and the unity of the closely related parts of our district (historically there are eight of them) on the other. The two-horned anchor with a rope wound around it refers to the shipbuilding industry ofthe district, its former ferry crossing and dock; the five staggered rows symbolise Újlipótváros.
We maintain friendly relations with the following sister towns: District Florisdorf of
Wien and District Ochota of Warsawa, town Szováta (Sovata) in Romania and Eszék (Osijek) in Croatia, and Kassa-Délváros (South City of Kosice).
The high level of public administration was certified in 1999: our Mayor’s Office being first in Budapest and third in the country obtained international quality assurance certificate ISO. From this time the system was improved continuously and from June 2002 we apply the more up-to-date EN ISO 9001:2000 quality management system.
